Cotton Costs Expected to Rise Rapidly

increasing costs of cottonAccording to the National Council of Cotton, world cotton prices are now about 50% more than last year at this time – from about 60 cents per pound to 90 cents per pound – and will likely increase further in the coming months.

Since imprinted T-shirts the top-selling item in the ad specialty industry, Eco Marketing Solutions is advising their clients to prepare for increased costs on apparel to climb in the next few months.   Prices are fluctuating daily, with an upward trend, notes Robert Piller, President of EcoMarketingSolutions.com  ” We have been calling our larger accounts and trying to get them to pre-order their fourth quarter wearables now – so that we can lock in lower prices now.”

He continues, “My mills are telling me that specifically impacting the apparel market is the worldwide shortage of cotton.  And with yarns being more difficult to obtain, we are seeing production delays and material cost increases everywhere.”

If you are planning on ordering imprinted T-shirts, branded hoodies or other promotional clothing, now would be the time to order to lock in pricing and supply.  However, imprinted promotional products still offer some of the lowest cost per impression of any advertising media, according to a recent study.
