Marketing Sustainability in the Real Estate Industry

September 8th, 2010 No comments
Real estate agents are going green with eco friendly totes bagsSustainability has become a key selling point in many industries, including the real estate industry.  One way that a real estate broker has set herself apart from others is through strategic marketing, going after the green market.
Susan Singer, senior vice president of sales for The Corcoran Group and a self-proclaimed “eco-broker,” has branded herself “The Green Queen”, and reinforces and brands that message as she promotes the sustainability of the properties she is offering, and drives potential clients to her website with an eco-friendly promotional product.
“Years ago, I used refrigerator magnets and a mouse pad, and they both got me a lot of mileage,” says Singer. “But I wanted to do something that was eco-friendly this time and that could be used in an eco-friendly way.”
To help spread the word about her business, Singer ordered plenty Read more…

Motivating Your Employees to Go Green

December 5th, 2009 No comments

greener employeesAt a recent panel discussion at which I was a part of, questions seemed to keep popping up about how to get employees on board for a “go green” initiative.

Some of the human resource directors in the audience expressed how there were certain departments, or individuals within particular departments, that were not on board with the program. Others expressed how they have 90%-100% participation and commitment at their work. How was such a wide degree of participation possible?

Now, I have already mentioned how to start a “go green” program at work, which you can read at this link.

The consensus among the panelists was that the “carrot and stick” method was the best approach, by far. Greening a business takes time and patience. Like I had mentioned previously, baby steps work best.

Peer pressure seems to be one of the strongest motivators. So is ease of participation. If there are employees who do not throw out their soda cans or recycle their paper products, low cost recycle bins or stations placed in the break room, in the IT room, in visible and well-trafficked locations around the office will surely increase the recycling rate.

Be sure to make participation fun, with imprinted water bottles, biodegradable coffee tumblers, reusable utensils, etc., that carry your Be Green theme or slogan on them. Also, offer points for participating, both in terms of individual and group participation. Contests for most waste recycled per week, least amount of paper used per office, most car-pool miles, etc. will encourage Read more…

Five Steps to Starting a Go Green Program at Work

December 5th, 2009 No comments

Go Green

More and more businesses and organizations are choosing to “go green” these days. Once that decision is made, it is important to get this initiative off on the right foot in order to maximize the participation rate and its effectiveness.

Here are five proven steps to incorporate when deciding to “go green”.

1) Determine why your organization is going green
.
Having an eco-friendly business is a nice goal to achieve, but it will take many hundreds of man-hours, training, behavior modifications, meetings and costs, so it is important to understand why this decision is being made.

• Is it because your competition has gone green?
• Is it because of some negative press your organization has received in the trade publications or local press?
• Is it because you want to achieve long-term energy savings?
• Is it because you want to practice good corporate social responsibility?

Knowing the true reason(s) for this “go green” initiative is crucial in order to get the program started.

2) Find a Green Team Leader
One of the most crucial steps is choosing the right person to head up Read more…

9 Marketing Ideas for Imprinted Live Tree Seedlings

March 13th, 2009 No comments

Eco Marketing Solutions offers a live tree seedling tree in a bag or tube for Earth Day

These days, customers are running more green-friendly promotional, advertising and marketing campaigns. Going green has become a priority for many companies that are turning to organic, green and biodegradable giveaways. Because of the growth in green-friendly promotions, live custom-imprinted tree seedlings (also known as saplings) have been one of the most successful eco-friendly promotional giveaways since we created them nearly 18 years ago.

Although we ship millions of these tree seedlings each year, many businesses and organizations still have questions about how they can use live tree seedlings for their next promotion.

Here are some idea starters based on popular slogans we often use for these saplings, which can help when planning your next marketing program:

1) We’re Branching Out: Whether it is a bank, restaurant, dry cleaner or other retail establishment that is opening another office or branch, this slogan will help your customers remember you.

2) You’ll See More Green: Does your company offer a money-saving service or product? Is it a lower-priced alternative than your competition? If so, this is a good slogan.

3) Putting Down Roots in Your Community: Are you a financial service provider? Real Estate Agent or Broker? If you would like to remind your customers of your long-history in your community, this is the perfect slogan.

4) Come Grow With Us: Similar to the first slogan, inviting prospects and customers to grow with you Read more…

12 Reasons to Give Away Live Tree Seedlings for Earth Day

March 2nd, 2009 No comments

use tree seedlings for Earth Day promotionsEarth Day is on April 22nd and companies keep asking for me for the best item to give away for that event.

Although I sell tens of thousands of eco tote bags, biodegradable sports bottles, and items made from recycled tires, denim, plastic, etc. – I am especially proud of the fact that I also sell hundreds of thousands of live tree seedlings for Earth Day promotions.

These live seedlings come in either a recyclable 10″ plastic bag or tube—with a logo on them.

Here are 12 reasons why live tree seedling are the perfect gift for any Earth Day event or promotion:

1.    An average tree absorbs ten pounds of pollutants from the air each year, including four pounds of ozone and three pounds of particulates (Source: Center for Urban Forest Research, Pacific Southwest Research Station, USDA Forest Service, Davis, California

2.    A full grown tree provides an estimated $273 a year in reduced costs for air conditioning, erosion control, storm water control, air pollution, and wildlife shelter. (Source: City of Portland, Oregon).

Earth Day 2011: Green Marketing Opportunites

January 9th, 2009 No comments

Earth Day is April 22

April 22, 2011 will mark the 41st anniversary of  Earth Day, an annual event celebrated around the world as the greenest of holidays. Established in 1970, it was created to call attention to the environment.

Earth Day coverage has grown exponentially over the past decade and will get substantial coverage in most media outlets — including national television, radio, newspaper, magazines, blogs, etc.

Earth Day creates an excellent opportunity for companies to promote their environmental activities and concerns to a broad base, as well as to their local community.

What will your company do for Earth Day to stand out to its base and capture the attention of its public? How will you let your customers, prospects, employees and/or shareholders know about your efforts to reduce carbon emissions, use more eco-friendly materials, reduce waste in packaging, start a recycling campaign, cut emissions, etc?

My suggestion: Don’t forget the kids. Children are Our Future.

A national research study commissioned by the National Environmental Education Training Foundation noted that children placed the environment third in a list of 10 issues behind only AIDS and kidnapping. This contrasts greatly with adults, for whom the economy, crime, and drugs are of greater concern. Children worry about long-term issues such as damage to the ozone layer and destruction of the rain forest.

Did you know that 99% of children in America today have access to environmental classes in school, and 31 states require schools to incorporate environmental concepts into virtually every subject in all grade levels?

Reach out to children. Children have influence over parents’ buying habits. as well as being an Read more…
